Belong to Be More / — Full Details.

Your Four-Day Journey

Throughout the four days, local language, songs, stories and seasonal practices accompany what you encounter in the landscape. You are not learning a theory of the valley—you are learning to recognise the relationships that keep it alive.

Times are approximate. Mountain weather, seasonal work and the availability of local custodians may change individual activities while preserving the purpose of each day.

Enter the valley

Day 1— Enter and Listen

Begin seeing the valley as a living community rather than simply a landscape.

14:30 — Arrival, settle in and welcome snack
16:30 — Lumajo with a local custodian and dogs. Recognise the fields, streams and places you learned before arriving and discover the relationships connecting them.
18:00 — Braña de Lumajo. Read the landscape together and ask: What belongs here? What doesn’t?
18:30 — Optional visit to Juan’s honey workshop
20:00 — Dinner and conversation
21:00 — Short concert

What you’ll take from today: You have begun to recognise your place within the life of the valley.

Day 2 — Decide and Care Together

Discover that belonging brings responsibility.

08:30 — Breakfast
09:15 — Depart for Rabanal
10:00 — Ring the village bells and gather with local neighbours. Decide together what needs caring for.
11:00 — Communal restoration at Caliche del Lobo. Leave something cared for behind.
12:00 — Continue towards the Braña de Rabanal
13:00 — Lunch with Elvira
14:30 — Follow the water downhill towards El Molino del Centeno, through pastures, forest and old mills, discovering the serpent story and its lesson: what we take, we must give back.
16:30 — Return to Villaseca
17:30 — Rest / possible shared seasonal activity such as butter-making
19:30 — Dinner, songs and the traditional dance of fertility

What you’ll take from today: Belonging means taking responsibility for the whole—and celebrating what you have cared for together.

Day 4 — Carry It Forward

Return to the high pastures and recognise what you now see differently.

08:00 — Breakfast
09:00 — Depart for Orallo
09:20 — Walk the high communal pastures with Sixto, among free-roaming horses, fields and water. Recognise again the relationships between land, animals and people that you first encountered in Lumajo.

Frequently asked questions

Rooms are arranged as double or twin rooms for two guests. If you’re booking together, we’ll allocate you to the same room.

Bring two pairs of suitable walking shoes or boots, warm clothing, wool or merino layers and socks, and a waterproof, breathable outer layer. A small daypack, reusable water bottle and headtorch are also recommended.

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Laciana is home to Cantabrian brown bears, wolves and other wildlife, but sightings are never guaranteed.

The retreat does not pursue or disturb wild animals. Their presence is explored through the landscape, habitats, stories and relationships that make coexistence possible.

Mountain weather and local circumstances may mean that individual activities change or move. We may replace them with other time-tested cultural practices from the valley, while preserving the purpose and meaning of each day.

The exact activity may change; the experience of the day will not.

We strongly recommend personal travel insurance covering cancellation, illness, accidents and disruption to your journey.
